Avalon Carpet, Tile and Flooring Representatives Return from the Largest Ceramic Tradeshow in the World

Representatives from Avalon Carpet, Tile and Flooring routinely travel the world in search of the finest and most innovative product lines and trends. Every year John Millar, president of Avalon Carpet, Tile and Flooring, and his associates travel to the largest ceramics show in the world, the Cersaie Tradeshow in Bologna, Italy. This year’s show revealed that the trends in 2003 focus on bringing fashion into the home. The ceramic tile industry is incorporating interesting use of color, style and mixed mediums.

Overall ceramics is the fastest growing area in the flooring industry, bypassing vinyl and other flooring products. What we have traditionally seen only in hotels, resorts and casinos we will now be seeing in homes, said Millar.

Manufacturers at the Cersaie Tradeshow presented ceramic tiles that have metal and glass accents. Tiles can pull elements of design together in the home. When tiles are used in kitchens and bathrooms on walls, floors, or as backsplashes, they accentuate stainless and chrome appliances and fixtures. Metallic tiles in gold, sliver and bronze are also becoming popular.

Glass tiles add color and light in and out of the home. Manufacturers are also offering environmentally friendly options; tiles made out of recycled glass and tiles that are impervious to extreme weather conditions and can be utilized in outdoor living spaces.

Tiles that look sleek with clean lines are replacing the rustic and distressed look of tiles according to Millar. Smooth cement tiles are replacing the tone look tiles.

There are many product lines in the ceramic industry. Avalon Carpet, Tile and Flooring is the largest direct importer of ceramic tile in the Delaware Valley with an extensive $5 million inventory. Avalon’s ten design centers offer an extensive and varied selection of ceramics from Italy, Spain, Turkey and the United States.
