NAPIER LAUNCHES INDUSTRIAL-STRENGTH COATING STRIPPERS FOR CONSUMER USE

Industrial strength paint stripping power will soon be in the hands of consumers with this spring’s launch of a new line of environmentallyfriendly products from Napier Environmental Technologies Inc. The new product line – to be marketed under the brand name of RemovALL – was formulated using the company’s patented Selective Adhesion Release Agent technology, a non-toxic but highly powerful industrial-grade stripping agent used for the removal of paint and other surface coatings from the likes of jet planes, ships and heavy machinery.

The new consumer version of the paint stripping product has undergone intensive research and extensive testing to provide ease of use for the Do-It-Yourself market. It’s easy to apply with a brush or a sprayer, non-toxic and virtually odorless.

Consumers are going to love this product, said Napier president Frank Dixon. It’s easy to use and very safe – for both the person using it and the environment in which it’s being applied.

A beta-version of the product was tested last year by a professional painting crew tasked with stripping an 80-year-old house as part of a This Old House TV project. The crew tested a total of six different paint removal methods during the course of the program, and chose RemovALL because of its ease-of-use and the fact that it is non-toxic (the program also mentioned that methylene chloride-based chemical strippers – which are most frequently used by consumers for paint stripping – have been classified by the Environmental Protection Agency as a potential cause of cancer in humans).

The best thing about the product, as far as my crew and I are concerned, is that it’s nontoxic, said paint contractor Jim Clark, who appeared on the program.

Spray it on in the late afternoon, let it sit overnight, and by morning the paint comes off in sort of rubbery sheets. We scraped it off easily with long-handled, three inch-wide putty knives.

Napier plans to launch the new paint strippers as part of an overall family of RemovALL products designed to prepare any surface for coating applications (including wood, concrete, masonry and metals).

They will be merchandized as a category grouping (Surface Coating Removal) within stores, and will feature specific products designed for a wide range of applications, including a deck and fence stripper; an interior wood and furniture stripper; a metal rust remover; a flooring adhesive remover; and removers for mold, mildew, grease, grime, graffiti and disinfectant cleaning. All of the products are water-based and non-toxic.
