Bamboo curtains are a great help in controlling the temperature of rooms on the sunny side of the house

Bamboo is a fun material to decorate with if you are trying to create a tropical feel in your room. In some places in the world bamboo provides the structure for much of the furnishings and bamboo curtains grace the windows. We take this design into homes in other parts of the world when we want to feel a bit of the tropical heat in our lives. Bamboo curtains have found their way to patio windows and recreation rooms in all corners of the globe. Not only are they attractive in the right theme and they are also very durable and provide long-term protection from the sun. Where textiles will deteriorate eventually from exposure to the sun, bamboo will endure for much longer.

One of the most frequently seen styles of bamboo curtains is when the bamboo is attached in horizontal strips and formed into a toll like a blind. The top most strip is larger than the others and provides support for hooking the curtain to the window frame. Most of these blinds do not require a curtain rod or any other hardware. They can be simply hung with a nail in each corner of the window and the eyehooks on the blinds attached.

If your house has a very sunny side you may want to consider using bamboo curtains on the exterior walls. This way they will not clash with a different room décor and still be effective as a sun block. Preventing sunshine from entering your room will make a dramatic temperature change and preserve the textiles used to decorate with.
